Stroke — Learn to BE FAST
If you think someone near you is having a stroke, every second counts. Know the warning signs, identify stroke and CALL 9-1-1 immediately.
Use the acronym BE FAST to quickly identify possible strokes:
B – BALANCE: Is there a loss of balance or coordination?
E – EYES: Is there blurred or double vision or a sudden loss of vision?
F – FACE: Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?
A – ARMS: Ask the person to hold up both arms. Does one drift downward?
S – SPEECH: Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence, like “Do you know what time it is?” Are the words slurred? Does the person repeat the phrase correctly?
T – TIME: If the person shows any of these symptoms, time is important. Call 9-1-1 immediately.
Heart Attack Symptoms
It’s important to know the signs and symptoms of a possible heart attack:
- Chest discomfort. Most heart attacks involve discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing or pain.
- Discomfort in other areas of the upper body. Symptoms can include pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
- Shortness of breath. May occur with or without chest discomforts.
- Other signs: These may include sudden cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.
Staffed by Concord Emergency Department Physicians
The Emergency Department at TMC Bonham is staffed by Concord Emergency Department Physicians, which was formally established in 2002. Being a physician-owned company keeps us ever mindful that the physician-patient relationship is at the core of what we do. Since 2002, we have steadily grown from a family owned and operated company that values people, to a large corporation that values people.
From the very beginning, we have operated with integrity, honesty, and hard work. These qualities, accompanied with a customer service driven attitude toward patient care, permeate throughout our company and are evident in the way we take care of people. For us it is simple: treat people right, be honest, and do a good job. That is the way it should always be done, and that is how we continue to operate today.
